A man who doesn’t believe in buying his girlfriend some flowers and a card because of the ‘commercial bullshit’ that is Valentine’s Day, has instead picked out a new TV which is far too big for his lounge.

Pete Bowen, 38, has been with girlfriend Theresa Connell for nine years nut more importantly has been in the market to replace his existing 42” TV for an upgraded 70” version for quite some time.

Pete said: “Valentine’s?  No way mate; it’s just commercial bullshit and a complete waste of money.  I hate the way these pointless days have been commercialised by Americans.

“If you think I’m spending £20 on Theresa after she tries to control my life by nagging at me for being ‘inattentive’ or something, you’ve got another thing coming.  She got all narked the other day because I forgot to pick the kids up from school, hardly the behaviour of someone who should be on the receiving end of some roses, even of the Cadbury variety.

“I’ll keep my £20 thank you very much; it’ll go some way to helping me purchase the £1,200 television I’ve got my eye on.”

Theresa added: “I keep telling Pete if he wants a 70” television we will have to move house.  When I say ‘we’, I mean me and the kids.”
